What is Scrambling?

Scrambling is the fastest growing outdoor activity in Britain and the best way to learn basic scrambling skills is to come on a course with Kendal Mountaineering Services. Scrambling sits in between hill walking and rock climbing.

You can choose either to have a guided scrambling day, on a scramble of your choice or you can learn the art of safely getting up a mountain away from the crowds. With KMS you won't just be hauled up a rock; you'll learn how to safely add excitement to your peak bagging.

On a learning to scramble course KMS will teach you all the skills you need in order to go out safely into the mountains and tackle those classic scramble routes for yourself.

You can learn the techniques of safe scrambling in our 2 day introduction to scrambling course. Here you will learn basic ropework techniques such as tying on and short roping through to more technical skills such as those required for assessing and selecting suitable belays, placing running belays where needed and developing those judgement skills to decide when to move together quickly or pitch parts of the route.

Scrambling Locations

If you fancy an exciting day out in the mountains then book on to one of our guided scrambling days. There are so many areas in the UK to choose from whether it be classic routes in North Wales, Tower Ridge on Ben Nevis, Pinnacle Ridge in The Lake District or a compete traverse of the Cuillin Ridge on the Isle of Skye. We can provide the equipment, the experience and the enthusiasm to deliver a fantastic experience.

Discuss your destination and we'll help you decide the best routes for you. On all scrambling courses we provide helmets & harnesses and all other technical equipment. You'll need to bring your own waterproofs, rucksack and boots.
