Canadian Canoeing in The Lake District 

Kendal Mountaineering services offer Canadian Canoe sessions and journeys in the Lake District, Cumbria. Canadian canoeing is also known as open canoeing or open boating. There are a number of great lakes in the Lake District used for this activity and these are primarily Coniston Water, Windermere, Ullswater and Derwentwater.

Full or Half Day Canoeing

You can choose to have a half day session or go for a full day out and journey from one end of a lake to the other taking in points of interest and visiting islands along the way.

As part of your day out you will be shown the basic skills of how to handle a Canadian Canoe (open boat) and what to do if you are unlucky enough to capsize or fall out of your boat. You will also be shown all sorts of fun things that you can do in a Canadian.

River & Lake Canoeing

Canadian canoeing sessions can also be done as guided trips on many of the Lake Districts' rivers such as the Derwent, the Crake, the Leven and others such as the River Lune. However, before undertaking a river trip with us, you should have learned basic flat water skills on one of the areas lakes first and demonstrated competence in handling one of these craft.

Equipment provided for Canadian canoe sessions includes a wetsuit, cagoule, buoyancy aid and a helmet (for river trips) please bring with you an old pair of trainers and a fleece pullover to wear next to your skin.

Canadian Canoeing is ideal as part of a multi-activity day in conjunction with another activity such as ghyll scrambling in the Lake District and is ideal for groups, stag & hen parties or individuals.
